Have you ever stopped to consider what it would be like to live your life without a full set of functioning teeth? Just imagine how hard it would be to enjoy certain foods; the ways in which it might negatively impact how you speak; and how it could damage your self-esteem. Unfortunately, for all too many people, living without teeth is a grim reality. That’s why we are pleased to offer full and partial dentures to our patients from throughout the Round Rock, TX, area.
Types of Dentures
Generally speaking, dentures come in two varieties: complete sets and partial sets. Complete dentures are designed for people who are missing all of their teeth, while partial dentures are intended for people who are missing just a few teeth. Both types can be removed by the patient, and should be cleaned using a high quality, over-the-counter denture cleaning product. Both full and partial sets of dentures should also be soaked in water when they’re not being worn.
Full dentures can be broken down into two categories: conventional and immediate. Patients who have already lost their teeth are fitted with conventional dentures – in other words, dentures that are fitted onto already-healed gum tissue. Patients who need to have their teeth removed have another option — immediate dentures. These appliances are provided to the patient immediately after their teeth are pulled, which saves the wearer from the inconvenience of living without teeth for a period of time until the gums heal. While immediate dentures provide some benefits, they do need to be relined as the gum tissue heals and begins to change shape.
